Surnames in the hearth tax of the Łuków Land 1775–1794

surnames 388 — from the hearth-tax registers of 1775, 1789, 1790 and 1794 and from the 1789 list of parcel-holders. Each entry gathers all the extracts for a family in the wording of the cards, locality by locality.

„Entries for persons” means: separate entries of a given name with a surname and a byname, not persons proved to have existed. Among the petty parcel-holding gentry the proper measure of a family’s weight is the hearths, not the number of entries — ten parcel-holders with one hearth each weigh differently from one possessor with ten.

The same extracts arranged by locality stand in the list of localities, and the whole — with the search across all persons, the modern map and the Perthées engraving of 1786 — in full edition.
