The Jasiński Family of Jasionka

Jasionka in the parish of Zbuczyn was first mentioned as early as 1441, and in 1531 it was recorded for the first time in a tax register. This site gathers what has been established about the Jasińskis who came from there: the family book, Jakub’s family tree, accounts and recollections of the First Jasiński Family Reunion and of other gatherings, and more recent work pointing to the sources that can help in genealogical research — among them the edition of the Łuków castle court records.

The family coat of arms

The armorials give the Jasiński Family of Jasionka the coat of arms Rawicz:

Kasper Niesiecki, Herbarz polski (Bobrowicz edition, Leipzig 1839), vol. IV, p. 458 — "Jasieński of the Rawicz coat of arms, in the Łuków Land" (Pol. „Jasieński herbu Rawicz, w łukowskiej ziemi”).
Seweryn Uruski, Rodzina. Herbarz szlachty polskiej, vol. VI, p. 6 — "Jasieński of the Rawicz coat of arms. Petty (yeoman) nobility in the Łuków Land, who style themselves of Jasionka" (Pol. "Jasieński h. Rawicz. Zagrodowa szlachta w ziemi łukowskiej, pisze się z Jasionki") — and further on a separate entry, "Jasiński of the Rawicz coat of arms. The same family as Jasieński of the Rawicz coat of arms" (Pol. "Jasiński h. Rawicz. Taż familia co Jasieński, herbu Rawicz").
Adam Boniecki, Herbarz polski, vol. VIII, p. 296 — "Jasieńscy or Jasiński of the Rawicz coat of arms, of Jasionka in the Łuków Land" (Pol. "Jasieńscy v. Jasiński h. Rawicz z Jasionki, w ziemi łukowskiej").

The documents agree: Michał Jasiński proved his nobility before the Heraldry Office of the Kingdom of Poland under the Rawicz coat of arms in 1855 — scans confirming receipt of the diploma are with Jakub's Family Tree.

W the Family Book Stanisław Orzełowski, on the other hand, devoted a separate chapter to the coat of arms Topór — and it was this coat of arms that was displayed at the Jasiński reunion in 2007. Stanisław Orzełowski relied on what had been handed down in the family.

The best route starts from verified information, ideally grounded in official records. After that, what makes the difference is being meticulous and patient — and using sites, forums and groups such as these:

Geneteka — parish record indexes; here you can check whether a surname appears in a given parish.
Skanoteka — scans of the books; the Łuków castle court records are collection 2067.
Szukaj w Archiwach — the holdings of the state archives: records, registers, maps and photographs.
Lubgens registers — abstracts of records from the Lublin region and Podlasie, prepared by the Lublin Genealogical Society.

Another helpful source is the study of the Łuków castle court records 1743-1744.

A good companion to it is the five-volume Herbarz Szlachty Ziemi Łukowskiej na Lubelszczyźnie, compiled by Marek Woliński and published by CKH Wydawnictwo.

You can also look for ancestors among fellow enthusiasts — two groups are active on Facebook, both private, so you have to ask to join:

It is also worth visiting the forum of the Polish Genealogical Society — it has sections on archival holdings and regions, and in the threads on translation and transcription you can ask for help with a difficult entry.
