„Separate entries for persons” means: separate entries of a given name with a surname and a byname, not persons proved to have existed. The same man recorded in four registers is one entry, but two namesakes from the same village are sometimes impossible to tell apart, and over twenty years a parcel could pass to a son of the same name. The hearths given at a collective entry are an equal division among those named — a calculation, not a reading.

The year 1789 stands twice in the table, and rightly so: these are two different sources. The register gives the hearths, the list of parcel-holders does not — which is why the list carries a dash and not a zero, and the hearths of 1789 are not counted twice.
No entry from 1775. This is the absence of the surname in the cards transcribed so far, not proof that the family was not there then: in the card file the 1794 register covers fewer villages than the others, and the 1775 one sometimes counts a whole starosty in a single entry, without surnames.

The card gives the surname alone, without a forename — just as with „cz. Turskiego” in other villages; I do not supply the forename, and this is not a form derived from a husband's name, so the recorded form of the name remains empty. „Sukcesorów Markowskiego” makes Markowski deceased (hence the mark for a deceased person); the card does not list the heirs. The village is not divided here into holdings: its whole number of hearths stands against one entry, because Annonin forms part of the Tuchowicz estate and is not a village of part-holding nobility. The figure 18 is underlined with a wavy stroke; it agrees to the unit with T90. The reading of the surname was checked under tenfold magnification: the second letter has a closed loop with a vertical stroke on the right, identical with the „a” in the word „dobra” in the same line, and not the round „o” as in „Annonin” — hence „Markowski”, not „Morkowski”.

THE ARITHMETIC CLOSES: 1 manor house + 1 brewery + 1 inn + 1 mill + 15 cottages with 1 householder + 2 cottages at ½ plot + 2 craftsmen's hearths = 23 h., and „23 d.” is underlined on the card with a double stroke. THE BREWERY, THE INN AND THE MILL stand plainly, one after another, checked under magnification — these are not uncertain readings. SCOPE: the heading of the line speaks of „Maszczibrodach z przyległościami” (with its appurtenances), but the reckoning of hearths is clearly narrowed to the main village — „w samych Mościbrodach” (in Mościbrody itself), and only these 23 hearths are counted here; the hearths of the appurtenance (Białka) must be sought under that village, to which the card itself points with the cross-reference „zob. Białki”. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE YEARS IS REAL, NOT A MISREADING: T89 (1789) gives 23 hearths, while T90 (1790) and T94 (1794) give 22 each — both figures checked under magnification, neither is smoothed over. „2 chat. ½ gr.” [reading uncertain as to the fraction]: before „gr.” stands a fraction written as a digit above a slash and a digit below it; the upper digit has the same shape as the certain „1” in „o 1 gosp.” in the same line, hence I read „½” („na pół gruntu”, on half a plot). Immediately after this the words „bez gruntu i ogr.” are struck through with one long stroke of the pen and remain legible beneath the strike-through — I record them in the text of the extract in square brackets as struck out, since this is a trace of the compiler's correction, not the wording of the register. The word at the end of the first line I read as „dziedziczna” [reading uncertain]: before it stands a tall vertical loop (an opening bracket or the ascender of „d”), and the formula „dziedziczna” is constant in T89 of this card index (cf. Krzesk Stary: „dziedziczna złączona”). THE CROSS-REFERENCE „zob. Białki” stands in the last band of the card, at the left margin, below the T89 line and to the left of the V48 extract; I attach it to T89, since it is T89 that speaks of the appurtenances (just as at Piaski: „= 5 d. zob. Jedlanka, Zagordź”). THE NAME OF THE VILLAGE in this extract has the form „Maszczibrody”, with an „i”, differing from „Maszczybrody” in S87, T90 and V48 on the same card.

THE FIGURE 22 CONCERNS THE VILLAGE ALONE, NOT THE WHOLE ESTATE: the first line describes „dobra Maszczybrody (Maszczybrody i Białka)” (the estate of Maszczybrody), but the number of hearths stands in a separate line and is clearly narrowed — „wieś Maszczybrody – 22 dymów wiejskich 2giej klasy”; this card does not give the hearths of Białka. „22” is underlined with a plain stroke. „dziedz. sukces. Józefa Markowskiego” — the hereditary owners are now the successors, so Józef Markowski himself is by 1790 no longer alive (the mark for a deceased person: true); a year earlier, in T89 and T₀89 on the same two cards, he still appears as the living hereditary owner. I RECORD THE OFFICE as it stands on the card — „chorążego mielnickiego”, without the word „ziemi”; in other villages of the card index (Tuchowicz, Wólka Zastawska) the same man bears the full form „chorąży ziemi mielnickiej”, so it is the same office, only shortened. The word „mielnickiego” itself was checked under magnification (m-i-e-l-n-i-c-k-i-e-g-o), since on a first reading it could be taken for „wieluńskiego”. The possessor's surname: „Lemnickiego”, without the hook under the „e” — on card 2) in O83 the same person is recorded „Lęmnickiego”, with a clear hook; I do not reconcile the two forms.

The figure „22” is underlined with a wavy stroke; the first digit is written over another digit (corrected, two overlaid strokes are visible), the second is legible — the reading „22” is confirmed by agreement with T90 on card 1), where „22” stands cleanly and is likewise underlined. The figure concerns the VILLAGE („Maszczybrody – wieś – 22 dymów”), and only the further part of the line speaks of the whole estate „z przyległościami” (with its appurtenances). T94 gives no OFFICE — only the forename and surname. A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE TRANSCRIPTS, WHICH I DO NOT SMOOTH OVER: T94 (1794) writes „Józefa Markowskiego”, as though the hereditary owner were alive, whereas T90 (1790) on card 1) already says „dziedz. sukces. Józefa Markowskiego”; the T94 line was checked under magnification — neither the word „sukces.” nor „ssrów” is in it. I therefore do NOT place the mark for a deceased person beside this person, although in T90 it rightly stands; the decision whether T94 merely repeats the outdated name of the estate I leave to the owner.

Uncertain readings: (1) beside „2 chat. … ogr.” the word between „chat.” and „ogr.” is written in above the line and struck through with a thick horizontal stroke; it can be read as „bez”, and so runs the corresponding phrase on the card of Celiny tuchowickie („1 chat. bez ogr.”), but the writing itself is struck out, and so I give it in square brackets; (2) the figures beside „o … gosp.” in the second line are heavily corrected over an existing trace — I read „o 1 gosp.”, although the shape does not decide between 1 and 2; this has no effect on the total, because the hearths are counted from the cottages, not from the householders. The name of the appurtenance „Jannik” [reading uncertain] — cards 1 and 3 write the same place „Jonnik” („cz. The card gives no forename for the hereditary owner — the surname and the office alone; from T89 and T90 it is known that Józef Markowski is meant, but I do not merge the years. The wording is identical in build with the T₀89 at Celiny tuchowickie (card 2) and Jeleniec (card 2). The designation of the little town is written in an abbreviation which the copyist corrected: beneath the superscribed „m-sto” an older, blotted writing of the same word is visible — I read „m[ia]sto par[afialne]” [reading uncertain]. After „propinacja” the card lists three further entries of the 1789 extract — the parsonage, the vicarage and the organist's house — without hearths and without surnames; the semicolon at the end of the line and the breaking off of the writing at the very bottom require us to reckon with a continuation of the list which is not in the card index.

Here stands the full list of the appurtenances of the estate complex: Tuchowicz itself, Annonin, Celiny, Jeleniec and the holdings in Jonnik and Wólka Zastawska. The name „cz. Jonnika” [reading uncertain] — in the manuscript a clear „Jonnika” (a closed „o”, then the two arcs of „nn”), just as in T94 on card 3) („połowa Jo-nnika”), whereas T89 on card 2) writes „Jannik”; the sheet of headings proposed „Jamnik(?)”, which the shape of the letters does not confirm. „kawalera orderu św. Stan.” I expand as kawalera Orderu Świętego Stanisława, knight of the Order of Saint Stanislaus. A discrepancy to be recorded: T90 (1790) calls Józef Markowski already dead („dobra dziedz. sukces. Józefa Markowskiego”), and the estate is in the possession of the chorążyna, the standard-bearer's wife, while T89 (1789) for the same village (card 2) and on the cards of the appurtenances (Celiny, Jeleniec, Wólka Zastawska) names him as a living hereditary owner; only T94 (1794) speaks there of „sukcesorach Markowskiego”. The card index does not explain this.
