Caveats on the years' registers (4)

What the compiler noted beside the entry itself, and what the table above does not show:

  • T89 — The 1789 register set out by buildings. The card does not number the entries — the numbering 1-5 is editorial. Below the list a stroke and a total of its own: „Razem 15 d.” („15” doubly underlined). In the same line, on the right, stands a CROSS-REFERENCE „— zob. Kamienowa Wólka;” (see the list of cross-references): a holding of Lipiny is counted for the year 1789 under Kamienowa Wólka, so the total of 15 d. is incomplete by that holding.
  • T₀89 — A list of possessors of holdings of 1789 — WITHOUT HEARTHS, hence the hearths figure = null in every entry. The first line is at once the heading of the list and its first entry. The card does not number the entries — the numbering 1-8 is editorial and runs from top to bottom in a single column. The list gives no total, so the total from the card = null. The annotation „nie wysiewa 10 korcy” stands beside entry 7, and in entry 8 the card repeats it with the word „podobnież” written on the right, roughly beneath it — and for that reason both entries receive the same annotation.
  • T90 — The extract is written in blue ink, unlike the rest of the card. The numbers of hearths stand in a separate column on the right, joined to the entry by a long stroke. The full wording „dymów wiejskich 2giej klasy” stands only beside entry A (and there „2giej klasy” is STRUCK OUT); in the lower lines the card repeats it with repetition marks („ ” ” ” ”); in the the text of the extract field these marks are expanded. Below the column a stroke and the total: „Razem - 13 dymów wiejskich 2giej klasy;–” („13” doubly underlined).
  • T94 — The 1794 register. The card does not number the entries — the numbering 1-4 is editorial. The heading of the list is the bare word „wieś” (without a repetition of the name). Below the list a long stroke and a total of its own: „Razem 13 dymów;” („13” underlined with a wavy line). The total agrees with T90 (13 as well), and differs from T89 (15 d. plus the holding counted under Kamienowa Wólka) and from T75 (16).

The card-index entries

Every extract for this locality in the wording of the cards, year by year. One block is one occurrence: this person, in this year. At a collective item the same card text stands beside every person named — because the card names them together and they must not be separated. The hearths given at a collective item are an equal division among those named, not a reading.

KrasowskiMaciej
T755 hearths1) cz. Macieja Krasowskiego dym. 5card 1)
The surname on this card is written „Krasowskiego” (with a single -s-, with -ow-); in ALL the remaining extracts of this village „Krassowskiego” stands, with two -s- (in T90 on the same card the letter is reworked, but on card 4) the writing is entirely legible). The form with a single -s- is therefore isolated in this village and stands only here; I do not harmonise it. Not to be confused with the Krasuskis of the parish of Trzebieszów — here „-ow-” is clear. The figure „5” underlined.
SkwirczyńskiDominik
T754 hearths2) cz. Dominika Swierczyńskiego dym 4card 1)
On this card I read the surname „Swierczyńskiego” (S-w-i-e-r-…), while in the T90 extract lower on the same card there stands instead „Skwirczyńskiego” (with a -k- after S). Both spellings were checked on the card at magnification: in T75 after the capital „S” a „w” follows at once, in T90 a clear „k” stands between „S” and „w” — this is a discrepancy of the card index itself, not a hesitation of reading. The wording of this card is left untouched; in the index the person stands under the headword Skwirczyński (a decision of the owner of the card index, 17 IX 2026 — see „_rozstrzygniecia”). The figure „4” is underlined.

The buildings: „dwór” and „browar” and „karczma”, without a numeral, I count as 1 each; 1+1+1+2 = 5, in accordance with the given „= 5 d.” („5 d.” underlined). The figure „1” in „o 1 gosp.” is written thickly, over a blotted place — most likely a correction [the reading is uncertain as to what was corrected; the formula „o 1 gosp.” itself is standard in this card index].

The only woman in the T₀89 list for Lipiny, and the only person of that list who cannot be pointed to in any of the four registers under a forename of her own; the widow of T90 (card 1) and T94 (card 3) is there named solely by the form derived from her husband's name, „(wdowy) Andrzejowej”, without a forename of her own. Whether this is the same person — I DO NOT DECIDE, the card does not answer that.

The word „podobnież” stands on the right-hand side of the line, roughly beneath the annotation „nie wysiewa 10 korcy” of entry 7, and refers to it: this possessor likewise does not sow 10 korce. Hence the same note as at entry 7. The last written line of the card and at the same time the last line of Lipiny in the card index.

on this card the surname is the most legible in the whole village: „Skwirczyńskiego”; in T75 on card 1) the possessor of the same forename stands as „Swierczyńskiego”, without the „k”. I do not harmonise the forms.

The forename „Michała” — in T75, entry 1, the same holding (as to the surname) is held by „Maciej”; the card index does not explain whether this is the same person or a successor — I do not decide. It follows that here too „Marcina” and „sukces. Kazimierza” are two separate holdings (only the conjunction „i” holds them together), and that the one joint holding is „Andrzeja i Grzegorza” — two persons on one hearth. Seven persons, six holdings, six hearths; the figure 6 closes the total of the list (5+1+1+6 = 13, in accordance with „Razem - 13”).

a woman — the card gives no forename of her own, only the form derived from her husband's name with a description of her status: „wdowy Andrzejowej”; the surname stands once, at the end of the entry, in the masculine plural („Lipińskich”). I do not expand the form. She is the same person whom T90 on card 1) (entry D) names by „Andrzejowej” alone, without the word „wdowy” — only this card says that she is a widow. It is she who is the widow, so the mark for a deceased person is empty; it makes Andrzej Lipiński the dead one, but the card does not name him here as a possessor.

the card: „Antoniego po Pietrze” — distinguished by his father's forename; in T90 on card 1) the same person as „Antoniego syna Piotra”. The phrase „po Pietrze” makes Piotr Lipiński (T75, entry 3, on card 1) dead, but the card does not name Piotr himself here as a possessor, so I do not open a separate record for him.
