**A note on the given names:** in this entry the names **Maciej** and **Mateusz** fall to persons of one and the same surname. The Latin *Matthias* and *Matthaeus* stand in the genitive (that is, in the position of the father's name) and in this hand are practically indistinguishable — **Mathiae** against **Mathaei** — so both mentions may concern one and the same name. **The readings have not been harmonised**; see the note „Matthias czy Matthaeus” in the sheet „O źródle i metodzie”.

Before the present castle court records of Łuków, having appeared in person, the noble (Nob.) Teresa Wojciechowska, daughter of the late noble (Nob.) Jan Wojciechowski called Gwozd [uncertain reading], son of the nobles (Nob.) Stanisław and Marianna, daughter of the late noble (Nob.) Wojciech Klembowski, the Wojciechowski spouses, and begotten of the late noble (Nob.) Jadwiga Paskudzka, widow left by the late noble (Nob.) Stanisław Olędzki, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the magnificent (Magn.) Roch Antoni, of two names, Klembowski, sword-bearer of the present land, son of the late well-born (Gen.) Marcin Klembowski, begotten of the noble (Nob.) Urszula née Gałęzowska of Targowisko, and to his lawful successors, her estate — fallen to her lawfully, by divine and natural right, by way of succession, after the late noble (Nob.) Marcin Wierzchowski, son of the late noble (Nob.) Stanisław Wierzchowski and of the noble (Nob.) Katarzyna Klembowska, daughter of the late noble (Nob.) Adam Klembowski, brother german of her parent and her own maternal uncle, who departed this world without issue, and concerning the other successors as well — all and each of it, in the plots, the arable, the fields, meadows, woods, forests, groves, rivers, streams and the other appurtenances and appendages of those estates, lying and situated in the hereditary estate of the village of Klembów, with everything — she gives and donates, and she puts it from now into his possession, renouncing every right of her own, and this under the [land-law] penalties.
notes and marginalia An entry with numerous corrections: the first name of the deponent's father was corrected from „Stanisława” to „Jana”; „Woyciechowskich conjugum” was written above the line; the original name of the village was struck out and „Klembów” entered. In the margin a note bearing the date 1743 (largely illegible). The title „Ensifer Terrae Praesentis” (sword-bearer of the Łuków land) is here borne by Roch Antoni Klembowski, whereas in entry no. 330 that same title was read beside Krzysztof Jezierski – a discrepancy in the source, recorded without being resolved. The village of Klembów does not appear in the tags for scan 058.

Stanisław Wierzchowski to the late noble (Nob.) Katarzyna Klembowska, the aunt of her parent, by way of a simple debt before the present records on the Monday next after the feast of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the Year of Our Lord 1710 [the reading of the year uncertain], and fallen to her after the death of the late noble (Nob.) Marcin Wierzchowski, who died without issue, due and pertaining to her — sufficient and actual satisfaction out of that sum having been received, she cedes and by cession transfers, together with all the conditions of that inscription, giving power to recover the said sum from whomsoever it is lawfully due, to take up what is recovered and to give a quittance for what is taken up.
notes and marginalia The clerk's note: „Ignara personae litterarum” – the deponent (a woman) cannot write. The year of the inscription is read with uncertainty (elsewhere in the register – entry no. 378 – the same inscription is dated in like manner, and the figures of the year are likewise uncertain). The formula „the Monday next after SS Peter and Paul” requires a year in which 29 June fell on a Sunday; the years 1698 and 1710 come into consideration.

The noble (Nob.) Łukasz Borkowski, son of the late noble (Nob.) Walery Borkowski, in his own name and in the name of the noble (Nob.) Józef Borkowski, his brother german, for whose peace he stands surety, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the noble (Nob.) Marcin Zaleski, son of the late noble (Nob.) Adam, and to his successors the sum of twenty-four Polish złoty –

Mikołaj Wierzchowski before the present records on the Monday after Cantate Sunday in the Year of Our Lord 1708 [the reading of the year uncertain] by way of obligation upon certain estates lying in the hereditary village of Wierzchowiny, and afterwards ceded at last by that same noble (Nob.) Wierzchowski to the deponent himself, or rather to the late noble (Nob.) Walery Borkowski, his father, before those same records on the Monday before the feast of St Nicholas the Bishop in the Year of Our Lord 1738 [the reading of the year uncertain] –
and now raised from the hands of the present cessionary, he cedes with every right and transfers all [the rights]; he consents to intromission from now on for the future and submits, both in the matter and in his own person, to the court, and this under a like penalty of twenty-four Polish złoty and under the jurisdiction of the present office.
The deponents unlettered (in the source: „Ignari litterarum”) – the entry without signatures.
notes and marginalia The entry begins on f. 98v and ends at the top of f. 99r – joined (at the foot of the folio the catchword „praesens”). Both years of the earlier dates are blotted in the manuscript and are uncertain readings (1708 and 1738); with the reading 1708 the Monday after Cantate Sunday fell on 7 May 1708, with 1738 the Monday before St Nicholas's – 1 December 1738. The persons agree with the tags.

The deponent was unlettered (in the source: „Ignarus litterarum”) – the entry bears no signature.
notes and marginalia The entry begins on f. 102v and ends at the top of f. 103r – joined. The formula of the date is inconsistent: 1 August 1712 fell on a Monday, the preceding day being a Sunday; „feria quarta” points to the Wednesday preceding the feast (27 July 1712). The difference of titulature is notable: Wierzchowski – Nobilis, the Domańskis – Generosi.

The noble (Nob.) Wojciech Karwowski, son of the late noble (Nob.) Stanisław, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the noble (Nob.) Mateusz Wierzchowski called Janowicz and to his successors he yields up with everything and transfers the sum of twenty Polish złoty – inscribed by the noble (Nob.) Antoni Wierzchowski to the said late noble (Nob.) Stanisław Karwowski, the deponent's father, before the present records on the Tuesday, on the vigil of the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Year of Our Lord 1736, by way of mortgage upon certain estates lying in the hereditary village of Wierzchowiny, and now raised from the hands of the cessionary of this day. He consented to intromission forthwith, and this under a like penalty of twenty Polish złoty and under the present court.
The deponent unlettered (in the source: „Ignarus scribendi litterarum”) – the entry without a signature.
notes and marginalia A discrepancy with the PTG tag: the tag gives „Maciej Wierzechowski Janowicz”, while the manuscript writes „Mattheus” (Mateusz). The reading of the manuscript has been adopted. The date of 1736 does not close: 1 February 1736 (the vigil of the Purification) fell on a Wednesday, and the Tuesday is 31 January 1736 – the formula is written in an abbreviated form, and the conversion is uncertain. In the left-hand margin of f. 129v there is a later note with the date 1765 („interes Wierzchowski…”), partly legible. The village of Wierzchowiny agrees with the tag.

Antoni Bedliński – by reason of the absence of that husband of hers, with the assistance of the noble (Nob.) Józef Skrzyszewski – on the other side, being of sound mind and body, deposed that mutually and reciprocally they give a quittance to one another and to their successors for any protestations whatsoever, made mutually against one another before the present records, for the relations entered, for the inscriptions pending in the registers and for all and each of the claims arising up to this day – by reason of the amicable settlement concluded between them and of the satisfaction rendered; and the protestations and the relations they cancel.
The deponents unlettered (in the source: „Ignari scire litteras”) – the entry bears no signatures.
notes and marginalia A clear example of substitute assistance: in the absence of her husband a married woman is assisted by a nobleman designated for the purpose (Józef Skrzyszewski), which allows her to perform the act. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 154.

localities in the entry the village of Wierzchowiny
The noble (Nob.) Szymon Wierzchowski, son of the late Adam called Dworak, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the well-born (Gen.) Konstancja née Rozwadowska, the widow left by the late well-born (Gen.) Andrzej Wierzchowski, and to her successors the sum of twelve Polish złoty — inscribed by the said late Andrzej Wierzchowski, the husband of the present [widow], to the late Adam Wierzchowski, his parent, by way of mortgage upon certain estates lying in the hereditary village of Wierzchowiny, before the present records on the Thursday after Cantate Sunday in the Year of Our Lord 1729, and now taken up by himself — he yields up and cedes with everything; and all [the rights] he transfers. He consented to intromission forthwith, governing himself by the common law, and this under a penalty of twelve Polish złoty, for which he appoints the present court.
notes and marginalia The date of the inscription cited has been reckoned: the Thursday after Cantate Sunday 1729 = 19 May 1729 (a Thursday) – it agrees. The operative verb in the manuscript is „cedit”, but since the cessionary is the widow of the debtor, the act has in practice the effect of a quittance; the wording about the taking up of the sum („per se quietem levata”) has been read with uncertainty. The lowest sum in this part (12 złp) – an inscription fifteen years old, closed only now. The persons and the village agree with the PTG tags for scan 57-020.
