Katarzyna née Popławska, wife of the noble (Nob.) Walenty Pióro, and to her successors, she is bound and obliged for the sum of one hundred and twenty Polish złoty by way of a certain, true, just, liquid and simple debt; which sum she inscribes and secures upon all her hereditary and mortgaged estates; and she undertakes and binds herself to pay that sum of one hundred and twenty Polish złoty, together with the interest due to that same creditor, at the feast of St Luke the Evangelist falling in the coming year 1744, God willing, and to lodge it with the present records, and this under a penalty of one hundred and twenty Polish złoty and under the court of the present office. [The sum] was raised from the hands of the magnificent (Magn.) Jezierski, clerk of the Łuków castle court.
The deponent unlettered (in the source: „Ignara scire litteras”) – the entry bears no signature.
notes and marginalia Ewa née Wyczółkowska, widow of Hiacynt Sobiczowski, appears also in entry no. 813. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 153. The entry closes a chain: the money paid by Jezierski for the estates of Katarzyna Pióro (nos. 942–943) returns into circulation as a new loan.

The noble (Nob.) Leonard Sobiczewski, being of sound mind and of good understanding, deposed that he gives a quittance to the nobles (Nob.) Piotr Kokoszka, Tomasz, Bartłomiej and Józef Pióro, and Michał Soszyński, and to their successors – for the marks adjudged by a decree of condescension issued upon the ground of the estate of the village of Izdebki Wąsy on the Tuesday, the morrow of the feast of Saints Simon and Jude the Apostles in the Year of Our Lord 1743 [29 October 1743], between the deponent on the one side and the parties quitted on the other, and lodged with the records of the present office this day by way of oblation; as also for the costs which the parties quitted were to have paid him beforehand – by reason of the sufficient satisfaction in the marks named above, and likewise for the tower confinement, he gives a quittance, and the enforcement clause of that same decree, as far as the marks paid are concerned, he cancels.
[The deponent] unlettered.
notes and marginalia The decree of condescension (the court's journey to the ground) of 29 October 1743 belongs to the same session under which entries 971–977 were written. The given name of Józef Pióro was added interlinearly in the manuscript. The noble (Nob.) Andrzej, son of the late noble (Nob.) Paweł Ostojski, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the noble (Nob.) notes and marginalia The entry gives the rate of the coin outright: „aureum hungaricalem octodecim florenis computando” – the red złoty (the Hungarian ducat) reckoned at 18 złp. notes and marginalia In the left margin a later chancery note: „1744, w sam dzień święta świętych Wita i Modesta [15 czerwca 1744] – kwitacja” (a quittance, on the very day of the feast of SS Vitus and Modestus), and so the mortgage was redeemed after but half a year. notes and marginalia Verified: the Three Kings, 6 January 1744, fell on a Monday, and the Saturday after it was 11 January 1744. The noble (Nob.) Kazimierz Pióro, being of sound mind and body, deposed that he gives a quittance to the nobles (Nob.) Ludwik, Józef and Jakub Pióro and to their successors – for the suit and official action brought and lodged with the present office on account of the committing of acts of violence, the infliction of wounds and other claims, more fully set out in the terms; further for the condemnation obtained in that matter in the terms for complaints, that is in the courts of the present office's suits, on the Monday after the feast of the Assumption into heaven of the Most Glorious Virgin Mary in the Year of Our Lord 1742; as also for the penalties adjudged upon the appointing of the place of appearance and for the whole and entire process — and this by reason of the amicable settlement concluded between them and of the satisfaction rendered; and the protestation, the relation and the condemnation he cancels.
notes and marginalia The date of the condemnation cited has been reckoned: the Monday after the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 1742 = 20 August 1742 (a Monday) – it agrees. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 57-036.

persons in the entry Ludwik, Józef and Jakub Pióro, brothers german, sons of Jakub Pióro – the parties giving the quittance; Kazimierz Pióro – the party quitted; Jakub Pióro – their father, at whose request the act was deposed
localities in the entry the village of Pióry Wielkie
The nobles (Nob.) Ludwik, Józef and Jakub Pióro, brothers german to one another, sons of the noble (Nob.) Jakub Pióro, being of sound mind and body, deposed and acknowledged that they give a quittance to the noble (Nob.) Kazimierz Pióro and to his successors – for two sums, and namely: the first of twenty tynfs, inscribed before the present records on the Monday after the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in the Year of Our Lord 1740, and the second of fourteen Polish złoty, inscribed on the Monday after the feast of the Holy Three Kings in the Year of Our Lord 1741 — both by way of mortgage upon estates lying in the village of Pióry Wielkie — by reason of their actual payment; and both inscriptions they cancel. — and these the inscriptions made by that same party quitted **in favour of the noble (Nob.) Jakub Pióro, their parent** [the word between „sui” and „Parenti” not read; the rendering of this clause uncertain].
notes and marginalia The entry passes from the left-hand page of scan 57-036 (f. 34v) to the right-hand one (f. 35r). **The first occurrence in the 1744 volume of tynfs** („viginti tympfonum”) as a unit of account beside the Polish złoty – the sums have not been converted, because the source gives no rate of exchange. The dates of the inscriptions cited have been reckoned: the Monday after the Transfiguration of Our Lord (6 August) 1740 = 8 August 1740; the Monday after the Three Kings 1741 = 9 January 1741 – both days of the week agree. The village of Pióry Wielkie agrees with the PTG tags for scan 57-036 (in the manuscript „Piory Magna”; cf. the palaeographical note on the confusion of P and S in that name).
**A revision made in composing the genealogical trees:** the earlier rendering of the closing clause („na prośbę Jakuba Pióry, rodzica swego”) suggested that the father **is alive**, which was at odds with entry 1281 of the same day and with entry 1370 (20 April 1744), where Jakub is **dead**. An enlargement of the manuscript (scan 57-036, f. 35r, the second line from the top) shows „…cassa[n]t per Eunde[m] Quietatore[m] et G. Jacobo Pióro Sui […] Parenti” — Jakub stands in the **dative**, and therefore as the person **in whose favour** the cancelled inscriptions of 1740 and 1741 were made. On such a reading the sons give the quittance **as his heirs**, and the contradiction with 1281 disappears. The word between „Sui” and „Parenti” (an abbreviation with suspension) has not been read; **there is no „olim” there**, and so the discrepancy has not been held to be settled.

persons in the entry Józef Pióro, son of the late Jakub Pióro – the party giving the quittance; Łukasz Pióro – the party quitted
localities in the entry —
The noble (Nob.) Józef Pióro, son of the late noble (Nob.) Jakub, being of sound mind and body, deposed that he gives a quittance to the noble (Nob.) Łukasz Pióro and to his successors – for a certain protestation together with an inspection of wounds, made officially against him – and this by reason of the settlement concluded; and that same protestation he cancels.
notes and marginalia A discrepancy within the register, **softened upon revision**: the original rendering of entry 1279 made Jakub Pióro the living parent of the deponents, whereas here he is „olim”. A fresh reading of the manuscript showed that in 1279 Jakub stands in the **dative** — as the person in whose favour the cancelled inscriptions were made — so that the two entries may be reconciled: the sons appear as the heirs of their dead father. **Entry 1370 (20 April 1744) confirms it**: „Ludwik, Józef i Jakub Piórowie, bracia rodzeni, synowie **zm.** Jakuba Pióry **zwanego Kacprzyk**” — the same three brothers, the same father, save that with a cognomen which entries 1278–1281 do not give. See the tree „Piórowie Kacprzykowie” in the genealogical edition. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 57-036.

notes and marginalia The term of redemption (23 April 1744) falls a month after the conclusion of the mortgage – the shortest in this part of the register. The persons and the village agree with the PTG tags for scan 57-041 (the cognomen Kokoszka).
