notes and marginalia The date of the original inscription in the source: „Feria Sexta in profesto Festi Sacratissimi Corporis Christi Domini Anno quidem 1725to”. The formula is internally inconsistent: Corpus Christi always falls on a Thursday (in 1725 on 31 May), so the „profestum” is the Wednesday, 30 May; „feria sexta” points to a Friday – probably the Friday preceding the feast (25 May 1725) is meant. Magdalena Rzążewska, daughter of the noble (Nob.) Jan Rzążewski, his wife, for whose peace he stands surety – to the noble (Nob.) Fabian Chromiński, son of the late noble (Nob.) lying and situated in the hereditary village of Bzów, in four places, standing waste, with every right, for the sum of one hundred Polish złoty, from now for three years, the term falling at the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in the coming year 1746 [24 June 1746], he mortgages, and thereafter until redemption; he consents to intromission from now on for the future and submits to the court, and this under a like penalty of one hundred Polish złoty and under the jurisdiction of the present office.
notes and marginalia All the persons agree with the tags for scan 104 (the tags give the full bynames: Rzążewski Kosmalik, Rzążewska Jedynak). Two of the starting points of the strips in the third field are uncertain readings.
**A revision of the reading („olim” instead of „et”).** The original translation read the word before the father's given name as „et” and made Fabian the **son** of Maciej. In this chancery the abbreviation **„ol.” (olim)** is written as an „o” with a struck-through stem and deceptively resembles „et”; the grammatical case decides it — the genitive with „filio” means **„synowi [kogoś]”** (to the son of someone), not „i synowi” (and to the son). The direction of the filiation is confirmed by entries 251, 406, 864 and 2007 („Fabian Chromiński, son of the late Maciej”). The pattern was checked against the manuscript: entry 246 (scan 56-043, „Antonio Domaszowski … **Casimiri filio**”) and entry 302 (scan 56-051, „Stephano Jasienski **ol. N. Pauli filio**”).

notes and marginalia The persons agree with the tags for scan 121 (Jakub Chromiński, Kazimierz Aleksio? – that is Kazimierz of St Alexis, Ignacy Sarnecki). The name of Father Chromiński's provostship is an uncertain reading; in the following entry he appears as provost of Stanin.

notes and marginalia The entry passes from f. 117v to f. 118r. The persons agree with the tags (Jakub Chromiński, Paweł Krasuski Puskarz, Wojciech Krasuski Puskarz). The sum of 500 złp passes together with the whole pending process – a rare form of cession taking in the rights of suit.

[An autograph signature.]
notes and marginalia The entry is a good example of a description of boundaries „by the baulks of the neighbours”: the four pieces of arable are identified solely by the surnames of the holders of the adjoining strips, without any measure of area. The reservation „monetae argenteae” (in silver coin) protects the creditor against repayment in worse money. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 138, except for Marcin Rzążewski and Wojciech Tchórzewski, whom the tags do not name; the names of the roads and of the boundaries have been read with hesitation. In the left-hand margin of f. 135r there is a later note with the date 1747.

notes and marginalia A rare subject: the reckoning of taxes paid (the contributions) between the co-successors of an inheritance share. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 139 (Andrzej Józef Jaszowski, Anna Rzążewska Jaszowska, Wojciech Rzążewski, the Chromińskis); the given name of one of the cousins has been read uncertainly – the PTG tag likewise gives it with a question mark („Paweł? The noble (Nob.) Paweł Tarczewski, son of the late noble (Nob.) Łukasz, being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the noble (Nob.) Jan Tarczewski, son of the late Jakub, and to his successors he mortgages his hereditary estate, that is a plot containing within it twelve strips, beginning at the village road and running towards the road called Zapłotnia [uncertain reading], between the baulks of the present party taking the mortgage on the one side and of the deponent himself on the other, situated and lying in the hereditary village of Tarcze, vacant, with everything, for the sum of one hundred Polish złoty – which sum was counted out and paid to the noble (Nob.) Paweł Chromiński – from now until redemption. He consented to intromission forthwith and promised warranty, and this under a like penalty of one hundred Polish złoty and the present forum.
[The deponent] unlettered.
notes and marginalia A mortgage without a yearly term – „hinc ad redemptionem”, that is until redemption. The sum does not reach the party giving the mortgage but goes straight to his creditor Paweł Chromiński, which explains the following entry (1047): on the same day Chromiński gives a quittance to the Tarczewski for 100 złp. Łukasz Tarczewski, the father of the present parties quitted, by way of an obligatory inscription and inscribed before the present records on the Tuesday after Laetare Sunday in Lent in the Year of Our Lord 1720 [12 March 1720] upon certain estates lying in the hereditary village of Tarcze, as also for all and each of the claims arising up to this day and for whatsoever protestations made and following upon them – by reason of the sufficient satisfaction and the actual payment of the above sum.

notes and marginalia The entry begins at the foot of f. 164r (scan 167) and ends on f. 164v (scan 168). notes and marginalia The entry begins on f. 164v (scan 168) and ends at the top of f. 165r. Several names of tracts and one surname of a neighbour have been read with uncertainty; Mikołaj Sobiczewski and Andrzej Ludowski are not in the PTG tags for scan 168 – the discrepancy has been noted. They consented to intromission forthwith, governing themselves by the law of this court. Moreover the father, the noble (Nob.) Jakub Chromiński, binds himself by a statutory letter to confirm the present inscription as to the portion of the daughter named above, when she shall come to the dowry due to her – and this under the land-law damages. The present court.
notes and marginalia **A discrepancy set down openly:** the manuscript calls Zofia both the donor (the wife of Jakub Chromiński) and the donee sister (the wife of Antoni Jastrzębski); the PTG tags for scan 57-035 note only one „Zofia Borkowska Chromińska”, and one of the Borkowski siblings figures in them as „? Borkowski” (the given name was not read by the indexer). The repetition of the given name has not been „poprawiano” – it has not been corrected away. The mention of a **newly erected building** (aedificium noviter exstructum) is rare in this register. The father's undertaking to confirm the inscription later „listem statutowym”, when the daughter comes to her dowry, secures her rights – a typical protective construction.
