notes and marginalia The manuscript distinguishes in one entry two forms of the given name: „Mathaeo Borkowski” (Mateusz – the party taking the mortgage) and „Mathiae Borkowski” (Maciej – the neighbour). The PTG tags for scan 57-028 note only Maciej, Łukasz, Stanisław and Wojciech Borkowski; Mateusz is not among them – the reading of the manuscript has been adopted, because the distinction is carried through it consistently, and the discrepancy has been noted. The term of redemption (St Adalbert 1744 = 23 April 1744) falls not quite two months after the mortgage was constituted. **A note on the given names:** in this entry the names **Maciej** and **Mateusz** fall to persons of the same surname. The Latin *Matthias* and *Matthaeus* stand in the genitive (that is, in the position of the father's name) and are in this hand practically indistinguishable – **Mathiae** against **Mathaei** – so that both mentions may concern one and the same name. **The readings have not been made uniform**; see the note „Matthias czy Matthaeus” in the sheet „O źródle i metodzie”.
