notes and marginalia The year of the inscription has been read as 1727 and confirmed by the calendar reckoning: the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, 29 June 1727, fell on a Sunday, and the morrow was Monday 30 June 1727 – in accordance with the formula „Feria Secunda in Crastino”. In the left margin a chancery note „nil”. The entry discloses two offices: Jan Jasiński – instigator of the Łuków castle court, Baltazar Jasiński – regent of the land and castle court records of Czersk. The persons agree with the PTG tags for scan 167. **A correction of the siglum (a revision on scan 167, the left column, the line „…sanaq[ue] agens Quia Ipsa G. Joannem | Jasienski Instigatorem Castr. Lucovien. illiusq[ue] Successores…”):** Jan Jasiński bears here the siglum **G. (Generosus)**, not Nob., just as Baltazar does; the earlier translation wrongly gave „(Nob.)”. The Ryszkowski and the Gołaski in the same entry are **N. (Nobiles)** — the chancery consistently keeps the two circles apart. **The question of Jan's identity:** the father of Józef and Baltazar, known from entries 1364, 1365 and 1989, is **Jan Jasieński, judge of Czersk, who died before 20 April 1744**. The Jan of the present entry is alive on 10 December 1743 and holds the office of **instigator of the Łuków castle court**. For identifying the two speak the same siglum Gen., the surname rare in these registers, and the fact that the sum on Jan's behalf is paid out **through the hands of Baltazar** — an attested son of the judge; against it speaks the difference of the offices (a judge of the Czersk land and an instigator of the Łuków castle are ranks not to be compared). **The source gives the kinship of Jan the instigator with no one at all**, and the matter has not been decided here.

notes and marginalia The entry passes from scan 57-051 (f. 50r) to 57-052 (f. 50v); it is joined into one item. There appear here **two court regents** – Józef Jasieński (regent of Łuków) and Baltazar Jasieński (regent of the land and castle court records of Czersk) – and **the very reverend Kazimierz Karwowski, parish priest at Drążgowo** (the siglum Perillustris et Admodum Reverendus). The suit passed from the Łuków castle court **by way of appeal to the Crown Tribunal at Lublin** and comprised **the surrender of a fugitive subject** (extraditio subditi) – in the year 1744 this is the first mention of a dispute over a fugitive. The amount is given with groszy: 203 złp 22 gr. The surname of the original debtor and the office of judge held by Karwowski have been read with uncertainty. **A correction of the reading:** the word before „G. Adami Ryszkowski filij” (scan 57-051, the last line of the right-hand column) is **„ol.”**, not „et” — Adam Ryszkowski **was dead**. The comparison with a certain „et” in the same line („Paulus **et** Michael”) decides the matter: there a low „e” with a short „t” is to be seen, while here an „o” with a tall stroke crossed through. The grammar itself says the same — the genitive „Adami … filij” calls for „olim”, not „et”. **The spelling of the surname:** the manuscript has „Jasienscy”, the PTG tags for scan 57-052 — „Baltazar Jasiński”, „Jan Jasiński”, „Józef Jasiński”; in the indexes the form **Jasiński** has been adopted after the tags, while in the translation the form of the manuscript has been kept. **A revision made while compiling the genealogical trees (the reading checked on scan 57-052, f. 50v, the first four lines of the left-hand column):** „…filij fratres inter se germani ab una Et Joseph[us] Lucoviensis ac Baltasar Terrestris et Castrensis Cernen[sis] Regentes Jasienscy **ol[im] G. Joannis Jasienski Judicis Cernen[sis] filij** parte ab altera…”. The manuscript therefore gives two things which the earlier translation did not render: the father **was already dead** („olim”) on 20 April 1744, and he held the office of **judge of Czersk** („Judicis Cernensis”). This is **the only place in the whole corpus where the source calls Baltazar outright the son of Jan** — hitherto that filiation was treated as the researcher's hypothesis. The same office is confirmed independently by entry 1989 of 19 October 1744 (scan 57-186), where Józef is „ol. G. Joannis Jasienski **Judicis Cernens** filio”. The name of the office stands without the adjective „terrestris”; *iudex* alone with the adjective of a land denotes in this chancery a land judge, but since the source does not say so outright, in the study it has been written down concisely as **judge of Czersk**.

notes and marginalia **A discrepancy of dating recorded openly:** the entry stands under the session of the Monday after Misericordia Sunday (20 April 1744), while the bond officially strengthened bears the date 21 April 1744 – a day later. Neither the date of the session nor the date of the bond was „poprawiano” (corrected); it is possible that the entry was added after the session, or that the bond was antedated to the following day. The official confirmation (roboratio) immediately after the quittance (entry 1364) closes the whole matter between the Jasieński and the Ryszkowski. The parties are the same as in entry 1364, where the chancery names them with their filiation: **Józef and Baltazar, sons of the late Jan Jasieński, judge of Czersk**.
