The Łuków castle court records 1743–1744
persons 3 · entries 10 · years 1743–1744
Dear reader, remember that this is an AI study, that it may contain errors; treat it as indicative and verify it for yourself.
„Persons (different given names)” means: different combinations of a given name with a byname, not persons proved to have existed. Two namesakes from one family merge here into a single item, and the acts give nothing to tell them apart. An entry naming several families stands beside each of them — because the record names them together, and they must not be separated.

The very reverend (Perillustr. et Adm. Rev.) Father Michał in Ryszki Ryszkowski, provost of Tuchowicz [the reading of the office uncertain], being of sound mind and body, deposed that – in his own name and in the name of the honest (Hon.) Michał Całczyński, at that time his organist, for whose peace he stands surety –
he gives a quittance to the magnificent (Magn.) Michał Krasiński and Aleksander Załuski, starostas of His Royal Majesty and of the Commonwealth [uncertain reading], and to the others entering into the process, and to their successors, for the suits and official actions brought and lodged before the present office on account of certain claims and acts of violence, and likewise of extortions upon the organist, as also for the relations, the decrees and for all and each of the claims arising up to this day – by reason of the amicable settlement concluded between them, the decrees alone remaining in force in their entirety – and the protestations and relations he cancels by the present act.
[Signatures:] Fr Michał Ryszkowski; [the second signature illegible], in his own hand
notes and marginalia The entry begins on f. 103r (scan 106) and ends at the top of f. 103v (scan 107) – joined. The case concerns acts of violence and extortions upon the organist of the church of Tuchowicz. The second signature beneath the entry is illegible. The titulature and the office of the deponent are in part uncertain readings.

localities in the entry —
The well-born (Gen.) Andrzej Jaszowski, vicegerent of Łuków [uncertain reading], being of sound mind and body, deposed that to the magnificent (Magn.) Michał Krasiński, starosta of […] [uncertain reading], and to his successors – for the marks and penalties adjudged by a decree of the present office issued in the year 1743 between him, the deponent, on the one side and the magnificent (Magn.) Karol Załuski, starosta of […], on the other, and reduced by an amicable settlement to the sum of seventy Polish złoty, both by virtue of the [withdrawal] from the decree and by way of a penalty for its transgression – [he yields up]; and every power of giving and of receiving that same sum and of giving a quittance for what is received he transfers to him.
[Autograph signature:] Andreas Jaszowski Before the subdelegate, the well-born (Gen.) Antoni Modrzewski.
notes and marginalia The entry passes from the left-hand page of scan 57-033 (f. 31v) to the right-hand one (f. 32r). The surname of the deponent in the manuscript looks like „Zapowski/Zapolski”, but his **autograph signature beneath the entry reads „Andreas Jaszowski”**, which agrees with the PTG tag – the discrepancy resolved by the signature, not by conjecture. The starosty offices of both magnates (Krasiński, Załuski) are written in abbreviation and are illegible – they have not been supplied. A new official receiving the entries appears: the subdelegate Antoni Modrzewski.
date as the chancery wrote it (under the same date)

localities in the entry —
Tuesday after Laetare Sunday in Lent, in the Year of Our Lord 1744.
The magnificent (Magn.) Józef Spytecki, deputy pantler of Dorpat, on the one side, and Michał Krasiński, starosta of […] [uncertain reading], in his own name and in the name of the magnificent (Magn.) Aleksandra née Załuska [uncertain reading], his wife, for whose ratification he stands surety, on the other side, being of sound mind and body, deposed and acknowledged that mutually and reciprocally they give a quittance to one another and to their successors, and namely:
the magnificent (Magn.) Spytecki to the magnificent (Magn.) Krasiński spouses — for two sums: the first of five hundred and seventy-six Polish złoty, contracted by hand-written bonds, and the second of one hundred Polish złoty, due by title of the interest upon a sum of one thousand Polish złoty, falling on the fifth day of July; and adjudged, together with the penalty obtained, by a decree of the present office issued on the Monday after Reminiscere Sunday in Lent of the present year between those same parties — now in fact taken up;
and in like measure the magnificent (Magn.) Krasiński spouses to the said magnificent (Magn.) Spytecki — for the return of the ring pledged to him in the said terms, the return whereof that same decree enjoined and which has now been returned otherwise, as also for the enforcement clause contained in that same decree; and the enforcement clause of that same decree they cancel.
[Autograph signature:] Josephus Spytecki, by his own hand
notes and marginalia The only magnate entry in this part of the register with sums of the order of a thousand złoty. The date of the decree cited: the Monday after Reminiscere 1744 = 2 March 1744 – the same session which entry 1203 opens, which confirms the internal reckoning of the register. A rare object of security: **a ring given in pledge** (annulus invadiatus), the return of which the decree enjoined. The starosty of Michał Krasiński and the maiden surname of his wife have been read with uncertainty; the PTG tag gives „Aleksandra Załuska?” with a question mark of its own.

[Autograph signatures:] J. Spytecki — M. Hieronim Krasiński, in his own hand
notes and marginalia **The highest amount in the whole year 1744**: a penalty of 7200 złp at the official confirmation (roboratio) of a magnate settlement drawn up in Warsaw. The autograph signature discloses the full given name of the party – „M[ichał] Hieronim Krasiński” – whereas in the text of the entry the clerk gave only „Michael”; the PTG tag for scan 57-045 records „Michał Krasiński”. The same Michał Krasiński occurs in entry 1257 (12 March 1744) as the receiver of a sum under a decree; Józef Spytecki, deputy pantler of Dorpat – in entry 1277 (17 March 1744). The place where the composition was drawn up has been read with uncertainty.
