Siedlce mortgage registers: volumes 4, 5 and 6 read in full
The study of the Siedlce mortgage registers covers the books of the Office of the Mortgage Conservator at the Civil Tribunal of the Podlasie Voivodeship in Siedlce, held by the State Archives in Siedlce (fonds 56328). The volumes with call numbers (sygn.) 4, 5 and 6 are read in full; of the book call no. 7, its beginning: the first folios, with entries from 1821.
Every mortgage entry has a link to the archival unit in the Szukaj w Archiwach service, giving its call number and the number of the scan on which the entry begins. For entries involving the Jasiński family, and for entries in the books call nos. 1, 2, 16 and 30, the manuscript pages can also be viewed, as with the notarial deeds.
Surnames, given names and place names in the mortgage registers are compared across entries. Where the same person or the same family appears in many entries, uncertain readings are resolved on the basis of the others; this is how, for instance, the given name of the husband of a widow who appears in several entries is established. Kinship confirmed in other entries carries no question mark, and old place names are given in their present-day form, e.g. Krasów Wielki as Krasew.
Monarchs named in the formulae of the deeds, e.g. “Aleksander I, cesarz” (Alexander I, Emperor), have no separate entries in the indexes of persons. This applies to the notarial deeds, the mortgage registers and the Tribunal extracts.
Among the notarial deeds of Łuków and Siedlce read in their full wording are also deeds of 1811 and 1829–1833 in which members of the Krasuski family are parties. Of the 904 wills in the list, 876 are available in full; for 19 of the remaining ones, from the records of the notary Szczawiński of 1831–1834, the archive has no scans of the volumes.
In the Jasiński family tree the children of Wincenty Jasiński are shown with their spouses, among them Jakub Okniński, Jan Zielonka, Tomasz Zdanowski and Antonina née Jastrzębska, by her second marriage Chromińska. Wiktor (1753–1814) and his son Mateusz (1782–1820) carry a note from the mortgage registers (call no. 2, no. 71, 1816).
The page “Surnames on today's map of Poland” shows, from the PESEL register, how many people bear a given surname today and in which voivodeships they live. One can choose men, women or both forms of the surname together, and the number of people or the rate per 100,000 registered residents; selecting a voivodeship shows its details. While a surname is being typed, the field suggests the most common surnames beginning with those letters, and below it stand all the surnames of the families that appear on this site.
