Siedlce mortgage registers 1810–1826

The Sources section holds a study of the books kept by the Siedlce mortgage office in 1810–1826: debts, dowries and sums secured on property. The full name of the archival fonds is the Office of the Mortgage Keeper at the Civil Tribunal of the Podlasie Voivodeship in Siedlce. Its books showed what sums were charged on landed estates and houses, and to whom they were owed. The books of intabulation (księgi intabulacji) recorded debts, dowries and sureties, and the same books also recorded their removal (extabulation), for instance after a debt had been repaid. The books of ingrossation (księgi ingrosacji) contain full copies of contracts, while the notes (noty) are applications for an entry, which the registrar later copied into the book.

As of 14 October 2026, three books of intabulation and extabulation, which cover 1810–1826 without a break, have been read in full: call numbers (sygn.) 42 (1810–1819), 15 (1819–1823) and 16 (1823–1826). From the other units of the fonds — the books of ingrossation, the notes, the files (fascykuły), the government resolutions and the sequestration book — only single sample pages have been read. The study contains a list of 3,337 entries, in which people appear 12,440 times; members of the Jasiński family appear in 118 entries. An entry names the people concerned, often with their parents, spouse, a wife's maiden name or heirs, then the estate or house, the sum and the terms: pledge, due date, transfer of rights. Nearly every entry cites a deed — a debt, a surety, a dowry and life-interest settlement, a sale, a division of property, an assignment or a receipt — with the name of the notary or deeds clerk, the place and the date. Many of these deeds were drawn up by notaries in Warsaw and neighbouring districts or issued by courts and offices; they are given as worded in the entry.

Every entry gives the call number of the book and the scan number, with a link to the fonds in Szukaj w Archiwach, the Polish State Archives' online catalogue (62/150/0). When the deed cited in an entry is part of the study of notarial deeds from Łuków and Siedlce, a link leads to that deed as well — this is the case for 1,039 entries — and 1,006 notarial deeds carry a link the other way, to the mortgage entry. One example is the entry recording a gift from Marianna Jasińska née Wodzińska to Herkules Seweryn Karol Jasiński, linked to a deed of the notary Józef Olędzki of 1818. A person in the mortgage entries is linked to other notarial deeds in which the same person appears when at least two clues agree: a parent, spouse, sibling or child, a place or estate, a family byname (przydomek), a maiden name, or the same sum. A name alone is not enough, and where the clues contradict each other, the people are not linked. For entries in which Kazimierz or Konstanty Jasiński appears, the entry window also shows the manuscript pages.

The tabs are arranged as in the notarial deeds: People with family connections, Key figures (a list of 2,588 people), Entries, Selected families with trees of 466 families, Summary and Guide. The search has the same options as in the notarial deeds, among them searching for a single person and adding or excluding words. On the Search page the mortgage registers are a separate scope next to the notarial deeds — they can be searched on their own or together with other sources — and in the Sources section they stand directly below the notarial deeds and have their own row on the timeline.
