Surnames in the PESEL database, deed pages and families in the sources

The page “Surnames on today's map of Poland” in the Sources section shows how many people bear a given surname today and in which voivodeships they live. The figures come from the PESEL register — from the list prepared by the Ministry of Digital Affairs on 20 January 2026 and published on dane.gov.pl.

Type a surname in its masculine or feminine form and the page shows both (Jasiński and Jasińska). While you type, the field suggests the most common surnames beginning with those letters, and below the field stand the surnames of all the families that appear on this site. Where the register also has another spelling of the same surname, for example without Polish letters (Jasinski), the page gives it alongside.

The map of the voivodeships shows the number of people bearing the surname: men, women or both together. The second measure — the number of such people per 100,000 registered residents of the voivodeship — makes it possible to compare voivodeships of different size. Selecting a voivodeship shows its details, and a separate table gives the same figures for all the voivodeships.

The box “Around Łuków” sets side by side the Lublin and Masovian voivodeships, in which Łuków, Siedlce and Jasionka lie today; these three places are marked on the map.

Every notarial deed read in full, and every entry from the Łuków extracts of the Crown Tribunal of Lublin, has a page of its own — more than 4,700 pages altogether. A deed page gives the type of transaction, a summary, the date and place, the notary’s office, the people involved with their roles and relationships, the full transcription and the manuscript pages, as well as a link to the archival unit in the Szukaj w Archiwach service. Every page has a permanent address, so it can be bookmarked or sent to relatives.

The list of families from around Jasionka covers 64 surnames. For each family it shows which of the site’s sources it appears in and how often, and how its surname was spelled; it also lists the first notarial deeds in which the family takes part.

On the Search page you can also choose the “Family trees” scope. It covers more than 900 people from the family trees, and each result leads straight to that person’s card in the tree.
