„Persons (different given names)” means: different combinations of a given name with a byname, not persons proved to have existed. Two namesakes from one family merge here into a single item, and the acts give nothing to tell them apart. An entry naming several families stands beside each of them — because the record names them together, and they must not be separated.

[Heading of the session:] Thursday, the morrow of the feast of St Leonard the Confessor in the Year of Our Lord 1743 [7 November 1743].

The well-born (Gen.) Teresa Waśniewska, daughter begotten of the late well-born (Gen.) Karol Waśniewski with the well-born (Gen.) Marianna Ocieszalska, by her first marriage the wife of the late well-born (Gen.) Jakub Borkowski, and by her second and present marriage the wife of the well-born (Gen.) Michał Koźmiński – by reason of the absence of her husband, who is staying in the Volhynian voivodeship and therefore cannot give her his assistance, with the assistance of the well-born (Gen.) Józef Waśniewski, her brother german – being of sound mind and body, deposed that the sums, namely:

the first of three hundred Polish złoty, which the said late well-born (Gen.) Jakub Borkowski, her former husband, before the marriage vows were made, taking the dowry as a loan, inscribed before the present castle court records of Łuków on the Monday, the vigil of the feast of St Elizabeth the Queen in the Year of Our Lord 1715 [18 November 1715];

and the second of three hundred and fifty Polish złoty, which, by way of a simple debt, out of the dowry taken up, he deposed to her and inscribed to her, then his wife, before those same records on the Wednesday, the vigil of the octave of the feast of the Most Holy Body of Christ Our Lord of that same year 1726 [26 June 1726] –

both these sums, therefore, making together six hundred and fifty Polish złoty, together with all their rights – with the right to take them up, to give a quittance for what is taken up and to pursue them by the ordinary course of law – she yields up and cedes to the well-born (Gen.) Jan Ła…wowski [the surname – uncertain reading], son of the late well-born (Gen.) Wojciech, and to his successors. Moreover the deponent, together with her brother, undertakes and enters in the records that within a set term of weeks she will produce a deed of cession, or another like it, before any authentic records of the Kingdom whatsoever, and will bring the promise to fulfilment.

[Autograph signatures:] IOZEFF WASNIEWSKI; Teresa […] [the second signature illegible]

notes and marginalia **An inconsistency of the siglum in the manuscript — noted, not harmonised:** the same **Jakub Borkowski**, the deponent's first husband, is given a different siglum twice in this entry — at the principal mention **G. (Generosus)**, and at the citation of the dowry inscription of 1715 **N. (Nobilis)**. In the index the siglum of the principal mention (Gen.) has been adopted, in accordance with the rule followed throughout the edition; the fact of the divergence itself is recorded here. Both dates verified and consistent with the formulas: St Elizabeth the Queen, 19 November 1715, fell on a Tuesday, so the vigil was Monday 18 November 1715 („Feria Secunda pridie”); Corpus Christi 1726 fell on 20 June, the octave on 27 June, and the vigil of the octave was Wednesday 26 June 1726 („Feria Quarta pridie Octavae”). The sums agree in the reckoning: 300 + 350 = 650 złp. The PTG tag for scan 162 gives the mother as „Marcjanna Ocieszalska Waśniewska”; the manuscript reads „Marianna” – the discrepancy has been noted. The surname of the cessionary was added interlinearly in the manuscript and is illegible (the ending „…wowski”); it is not in the PTG tags. The entry documents a rare situation: a married woman acts with the assistance of her brother, because her husband is staying outside the voivodeship.
