Merry Christmas wishes 2014
Christmas Eve is a special time, when, as we break the wafer, we should think not only of those closest to us, sitting with us at the table, but also of those further away, to whom we want to wish well. Let us also remember those who are no longer among the living, and to whom we owe so much, for they gave us life, gave us their love and toiled for us.
For this special time of Christmas it is worth recalling a beautiful poem by the Polish poet Jan Kasprowicz:
At the Christmas Eve table,
breaking the holy wafer,
remember that this joyful day
is conceived in love;
that, as the old, age-old message
tells you all,
with the first star in the sky
God will sit down in your home.
To receive him with a warm heart,
to throw the gates wide open —
that is what love bids you do,
love, the greatest of virtues.
But he has deprived himself of creative fire,
shamefully shutting up his heart,
whoever lives at odds with his brother
and tramples on the holiest message.
To forgive each other your wrongs,
to put an end to discord,
and the struggling heart of the nation
will come out of the fight victorious.
A happy and joyful Christmas, and in the New Year the fulfilment of your plans in every field of life, wished to you with all their hearts by
